The Chemin Canal solar project is located in a hilly setting in the south of Réunion. This ground-based Agrinergie® project covers a total of 4.99 hectares, which was previously used to grow sugar cane. Akuo Energy’s creation of this project opened the way to a diversification of land use, which had the associated benefit of enhancing soil quality.

The rows between the panels are currently planted with passionfruit and farmed by Agriterra, an agricultural company partnered with Akuo Energy. The site is in the process of conversion to organic agriculture.
