Christian Chiari, a former soccer player who then trained in sales management, founded Akuo Energy’s Corsican subsidiary alongside Jean-Claude Venturini, and has now become its CEO.
Above all, Christian is passionate about nature and his native island and has strong green credentials. Thanks to his knowledge of the construction and retail sectors, and more particularly of the specific features of Corsica’s island environment and the strong identity of its people, since 2008 he has been able to build real momentum behind the development of renewable energy in Corsica.
Christian heads a team of nine people dedicated to project development, operation and maintenance, through the Akuo Corse Maintenance subsidiary. Of these nine people, six are graduates of the University of Corsica.
Akuo Energy has developed 7 projects in Corsica, with a total capacity of 33MWp of solar power, including 2 projects, with a total of 11MWp, incorporating electricity storage systems. In addition to the ability to overcome the intermittent nature of this type of electricity production, by providing stable, controlled current, these solar and storage plants also guarantee support to the grid thanks to intelligent systems for monitoring and controlling voltage and power output. The Mortella solar farm in Ghisonaccia is currently the largest PV facility in Corsica to use this system (7MWp/7MWh).
Meanwhile, projects using other sources of renewable energy (biomass, hydro and wind) are under consideration and the Corsican team is convinced that they will enjoy the same success as solar projects, particularly in terms of regional recognition.
