KWITA WIJE is a solar power plant developed by Akuo in the Southern Province of New Caledonia, located in the town of Boulouparis. The project consists of three parts: an energy production part (6MWp), a storage part of 3 MW / 3MWh and an agricultural component with an Agrinergie® greenhouse allowing to grow crops which contributes to reducing New-Caledonia dependence on import of primary food.
This is the third solar project developed by Akuo in New Caledonia which still depends more than 80% on fossil fuels for its energy production. The electricity storage device ensures better stability of the electricity network and provides renewable electricity in the evening between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., during peak consumption. Anticyclonic photovoltaic greenhouses help protect crops from cyclones frequent in the region.
