The project

Since 2019, the “Planteurs d'Avenir” association has been operating in the field of agroforestry and has created what they call participative plant nurseries: local third places devoted to getting citizens involved in planting trees in an agricultural setting. The project is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and the French Office for Biodiversity. The first tree nursery was established in La Possiblerie, Gironde, southwest France. One of the long-term objectives is to create 5 participative nurseries by 2026.

Agroforestry

Its second participative nursery is located on a plot of land at Château du Feÿ (Joigny, 89), a rural third-place committed to the transition and involved in a number of local initiatives. The nursery is dedicated to agroforestry and run by a nurseryman and several civic service volunteers. The 30,000 seedlings produced annually for agroforestry are offered to local associations for their planting needs.

Integration into existing third-party sites

These places are aggregators of best agroecological practices in terms of harvesting, producing and planting trees, as well as maintaining rows of trees planted in the vicinity. The tree nurseries are incorporated within existing third places and rooted locally in our regions, adding a practical component to the dynamics at work, thus intensifying their impact.
