Power supply per year: Equivalent to 35 000 households
Based in Martinique, NEMO is a floating OTEC plant with net capacity of 10.7MW. Developed in partnership with DCNS, NEMO is set to be the first OTEC plant to come into service when it begins operation in 2020. Its location off the coast of Bellefontaine brings together all the conditions necessary for the project to succeed: a tropical sea with warm surface water and a deep sea trench close to shore (5.3km).
NEMO will considerably improve Martinique’s energy independence, supplying an additional 35,000 homes with renewable energy. It is already a technological showcase for the region and is encouraging the development of local expertise and the creation of parallel initiatives to protect the island environment.
