Chile
Fossil fuels and hydropower still have an important place in the energy mix of Chile, with a significant share of coal extraction. But Chile is also one of the most concerned countries about energy transition and therefore the development of renewable energies. Recently, the amount of distributed power capacity of renewable energies has more than doubled and now the country has the ambitious objective of converting 70% of its total energy consumption to renewables by 2030. Furthermore, Chile has excellent lands filled with plenty natural resources for renewable energies hence all the conditions are met for Akuo to develop projects in the country.
Chile is the country in Latin America where we have the largest ambitions, focusing on the greenfield development and projects acquisitions, relying both on solar, wind and storage. The Chilean team quicky closed a first M&A transaction in 2022 for an 80 MW solar portfolio composed of 9 solar PMGDs projects (6 are under currently operation, two others will be finalized in 2025, and the last one will come on stream in 2026). These new projects cover a large part of the country in the regions of Maule, Ñuble, Araucanía and Biobío and will thus provide renewable and local energy to a large part of the territory. Furthermore, Akuo is currently developing one of Chile’s largest hybrid projects near Arica and other utility scale projects is different locations in the country.
Akuo Chile has now established strong local partnerships and launched the development of very large projects to support Akuo’s ambitions, allowing the team to be optimistic on the Group’s growth and contribution brought to the country renewable expansion.

Our team
The launch of these new projects laid the foundation for the successful opening of the Chilean office in Santiago in 2022. This milestone also marked the beginning of building a dynamic and multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting construction, upcoming operations, and the development of an ambitious and expanding project portfolio.
The team is actively focused on the Group’s core technologies—wind, solar, and storage—pursuing both greenfield and M&A opportunities, with project sizes ranging from 75 MW to 400 MW throughout Chile.
Chile's strong national commitment to energy transition and renewable energy has fostered a positive environment for attracting passionate and talented professionals. This enthusiastic recruitment has contributed significantly to the Group’s continued growth and long-term success in the region.

In Akuo we are delighted to be part of Chile’s energy transition process and we look forward to continue expanding our activities in the country.
