♻️ Global Recycling Day: The importance of recycling in renewable energy's lifecycle Producing energy from renewable sources is positive, ensuring that our entire value chain is sustainable is what the society is expecting from us. As sustainable stakeholders, we are committed to ensuring end-of-life is fully taken into consideration, through re-use and recycling. On this Global Recycling Day, let's highlight some key figures of our industry: 🌬Wind power: Today, 90% of wind turbines are made from easily recyclable materials such as steel, concrete, copper and aluminium. We are working actively with our suppliers to ensure that all these materials are fully recovered at the end of their life. Research is also underway to improve the recycling of blades, made of composite materials, to go even further. ☀️ Solar: The recycling of photovoltaic panels, carried out by @[Soren] throughout Europe, enables at least 95% of the materials to be recovered. Glass, aluminium and metals are recycled, and solutions have been put in place to recover the other elements, notably as derived fuel. In 2023, more than 5,200 tonnes of photovoltaic panels were recycled in France. 🔋Battery storage: In July 2023, the EU adopted a new regulation to ensure batteries placed on the EU market are sustainable and circular throughout their whole life cycle. Concretely, The regulation sets a target for lithium recovery from waste batteries of 50% by the end of 2027 and 80% by the end of 2031. Also, as of 2027, every single battery will be tagged with a QR to trace all its components and ensure reuse and recycle. As we celebrate Global Recycling Day, it's clear that continued innovation in recycling is key to enhancing the environmental benefits of renewable energy and fostering a more sustainable future.
