Ravine Blanche I & II
An agrivoltaic project combining solar production and free-range laying hens on the island of Réunion
The Ravine Blanche 1 & 2 plant combines photovoltaic production and the free-range rearing of laying hens. The project is being established on fallow land once used for sugar cane. It comprises two sites 450 meters (500 yards) apart, each of which harbors a 6,000-hen chicken house with an average of 4 m² of space per animal.
Led by Aviferme, a farming company specializing in egg production, this project has three objectives:
-
Produce green electricity to supply the local grid,
-
Provide healthy and respectful living conditions for the hens,
-
Restore the soil following years of single-crop farming.

A layout designed with the climate and animals in mind
Saint-Pierre has a hot climate. To protect the hens, solar shade houses have been installed. They produce electricity while providing shade from the sun and shelter from bad weather.
Trees and hedges are being planted to refresh and cool the land and encourage the return of biodiversity. These green spaces also improve the animals’ well-being.

Our CSR commitments
Environment
The planting of trees and hedges fosters local biodiversity.

Animal welfare
The hens benefit from a large shaded outdoor area adapted to the local climate.
Their protection is ensured without harming the birds of prey present in the region.
