The project

Following an initial operation in 2019 concerning the installation of latrines, in 2022 the Foundation decided to renew its support for the Schola Africa association. One of the primary objectives of this entity working in Senegal is to help improve children’s educational conditions.

A difficult access to electricity

One of the main hurdles is the lack of access to electricity in rural areas. As night falls relatively early, children have no way of doing their homework. In Senegal, over 52.6 % of homes in rural areas have no access to electricity and 50% of children’s education is undertaken outside school lessons, i.e. at home.

Their lamps

Within this context, the Akuo Foundation with AkuoCoop, the Akuo group’s crowdfunding platform, and Schola Africa have launched the Sen'Lampes (“Their lamps” in the local Wolof language) project that has enabled 160 individual rechargeable lamps to be distributed in three schools in the bush located several miles from the town of Saint-Louis and difficult to access.
