Kogeban, a name derived from Cogénération Biomasse Ajinomoto de Nesle, was the first Akuo Energy wood biomass plant to come into operation. A winning project in the CRE2 tender process in 2008, Kogeban produces electricity and heat. The electricity produced is fed into the EDF grid whilst heat is sold to Ajinomoto Foods Europe, the project’s industrial partner for steam production, thus avoiding the use of 3.5 million m3 of natural gas per year, or more than 120,000 tonnes of CO2.

Like CBEM, another Akuo Energy plant located nearby, the plant is supplied by the shared specialist wood supplier SABEHF (Société d'Approvisionnement en Biomasse Energie des Hauts de France), which is also a subsidiary of Akuo Biomass. SABEHF is based on the Kogeban site and follows an extremely strict environmental charter, allowing only sustainable wood sourced from forest industry waste.
