The Mortella project in Corsica is a 7MWp solar farm combined with a 7MWh electricity storage unit using lithium ion batteries. Having begun producing electricity in August 2015, it is the island’s biggest solar plus storage facility. The integration of storage capacity and an innovative system for monitoring and regulating supply allows the plant to overcome the intermittent nature of solar production, by providing stable, continuous power,
whilst ensuring grid support and balancing. The agricultural and ecological use of the land is focused around the planting of around one hundred olive trees for the production of organic olive oil. This agricultural element helps support the rural economy by supplying the local organic produce market, as well as enhancing traditional regional farming.
