Akuo created a subsidiary in Bali (Indonesia) in 2012 to meet the significant energy needs expressed by the Indonesian government, particularly in terms of the development of renewable energy
Indonesia, a country with more than 240 Million populations –thanks to its solid economic growth –should see an increase of 8% per annum in national’s demand for electricity at for the foreseeable future. In the meantime, it should also increase its electrification ratio (ER) from 70% (in 2010) to 100% (in 2024) while in the same time increasing the renewable energy penetration from 5% (2011) to 23% (in 2025).
Then, in order to respond to this Indonesian Government’s plan, Akuo created its subsidiary PT. Akuo Indonesia (AKI) in 2012, to develop a various, medium to large scale, renewable energy resources from Solar Photovoltaic (PV), Wind, Hydro, Biomass and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC). Further, with its expertise on islands and non-interconnected areas, AKI is well-positioned to develop a fully-integrated, tailor made high-quality projects in a country of 17,000 islands which is experiencing rapid economic growth.
In the medium term basis, trust on its capitalisation on innovative and proven solutions such as Solar PV or Wind with storage (battery or water/pump storage), Agrinergie® and Aquanergie®, AKI with its creative flexible team and also an expert support from Akuo HQ (Paris) would realize its 1,000 MW of development portfolio.
Today, AKI partners with PT Pertamina (Persero) in co-developing hundreds of MW covering Wind, Solar PV and OTEC technologies. AKI also works with MCA Indonesia in realizing a currently Indonesia’s biggest off-grid Hybrid solution (Solar PV-Battery-Micro hydro-Genset) spread in three villages in East Kalimantan / Borneo Island. The latter would be commissioned by end of 2017.
AKI has a team of 25 people having offices in Bali and Jakarta and see the opportunity to opening soon additional offices to support projects in Sumatra and Kalimantan.
