Advice for applicants

Agriterra le port

Whether you apply for a job at Akuo in response to an employment offer that fits your profile, or submit your application spontaneously because you would like to be part of the adventure, here is some advice on how to do it well.

Applying for a job: prepare and assert yourself

  • Make sure you apply for a suitable job that really matches your profile and your aspirations: Check the expected skills (technical and personal skills, languages, education), the required experience, but also the geographical area, even the location of your future office.
  • Take the time to write a good resume: a clear, neat, readable resume with just the right touch of originality.
  • Stand out with an honest cover letter: Avoid letters based on templates found on the internet. Your letter doesn't have to be long or meet standards, but it should be written with conviction. The goal is to explain why you liked the offer, so say it in your own words!
  • Prepare for your interview: find out about the company and what we do, have the job description in mind before your interview, and don’t hesitate to ask questions.

And breathe! Be yourself: simply explain why this position is right for you. Rest assured, at Akuo, an interview is a discussion, not an interrogation!

A cover letter, but why?

Although writing a cover letter may seem a little outdated, we take the opposite view: to us, it is the best way for you to stand out. We carefully read the cover letters we receive because they allow you to explain your career plan, in your own way, but also to highlight your other skills and singularity that can make the difference. We keep these letters so that we can contact you again for key positions that you might not have thought of. A good cover letter can make all the difference in a recruitment process!

Our conventional recruitment process

When your application is selected based on a resume, you enter a recruitment process consisting of several steps. First, a recruitment officer contacts you by phone for a quick pre-qualification interview. This is an important time to discuss the job in broad outline and confirm that you are still interested.

The process continues with an interview with your future manager, in order to validate your technical skills, followed by an interview with a member of Human Resources, and an interview with a team member who you may regularly work with in future.

We obtain your feedback at each stage and give you an answer after the three interviews.

Face-to-face or remote interview? Both are possible, but we want to meet each applicant face-to-face at least once during the recruitment process. It’s important for us to get to know you, and for you to see your work environment before you join the Group.

Mobility in our DNA

Amérique latine

Thanks to the diversity of our business lines and our international footprint, Akuo can offer employees many opportunities for internal mobility to ensure their professional growth.

Functional mobility: changing roles for professional fulfilment

At Akuo, our cross-cutting jobs and projects are a real asset. New power plants are developed by a project team working in a matrix organization. Experts from the technical business lines or support functions work together to secure each stage of the project. As a result, and depending on their background and skills, each employee may be required to temporarily take on a role in a team on projects involving different geographical locations or different technologies.

While you can join Akuo as an expert in a particular Renewable Energy technology, the Group encourages command of several technologies, through internal training or experience in the field, so that staff can be assigned to a more diverse portfolio of projects.

The career paths of our employees are packed with examples of mobility from one business line to another, whether this involves moving to positions in connection with the different stages of a project’s development, or from one support function to another.

Vertical mobility: new responsibility, new skills

Whether you want to develop your career by becoming a manager, or be recognized as a true expert in your field, everything is possible! At Akuo, we know that not everyone aspires to become a manager, because managing a team must be a stated ambition and it requires specific skills. As not all our employees necessarily wish to advance their career by attaining manager status, we also encourage the emergence of “key persons” who share their knowledge with the Group by leading communities of expertise.

International mobility: setting sail for a new country

When you work at Akuo, you work with people from very different horizons and cultures.

And this wealth of diversity is a real source of motivation! Most of our employees are looking for this intercultural dimension, either through a position with international exposure or through a real experience working abroad. At Akuo, there is no shortage of opportunities to work in another country... and they come in various forms:

  • Short-term missions: for the construction or commissioning of a new plant, for example, some employees may spend several weeks on site.
  • Temporary missions: employees move to a new region for a period of 6 to 18 months, to support the launch of business in a new country or to transfer knowledge.
  • Long-term missions: employees move to a new country with their families for several years.

Mobility Committee: coming together around concrete commitments

Akuo is a company on a human scale where we take pride in being close to all our employees and attentive to their evolutionary wishes, with the firm ambition of meeting them as much as possible. As career development is one of our key commitments, we encourage all our employees and managers to regularly discuss mobility during the year. All vacancies are posted on the intranet, so that all employees can apply for a position in the context of internal mobility. Finally, the Executive Committee meets every month for a dedicated mobility committee to monitor mobility projects and possible opportunities within the Group.

Our training strategy

The dynamic environment we operate in encourages us to continually enhance our know-how and to develop our skills and expertise.

This is why every year, in liaison with the Executive Committee and our managers, we draw up a specific training plan to support the Group's strategic orientations, accompany each employee's individual progress (new job, mobility, evolution of assignments) and gain insights into the key skills that will be required tomorrow to meet new challenges.

More than 90% of our employees thus receive training via external courses customized to our teams and in-house training via the Akuo Akademy – a network of more than 40 in-house trainers offering courses in all our fields of expertise. Our training catalogue currently comprises 40 technical training programs covering topics such as solar power, wind power and storage, but also project financing and legal aspects associate with projects.

Our induction process

Induction within Akuo is a key moment for our employees to whom we pay particular attention.

Each new joiner thus has access, as soon as they arrive, to a specific training course comprising several training modules. Each of them then participates in an induction event lasting several days enabling them to discover our activities, understand our values, ambitions and organization, and create bonds with all the teams and segments. A practical case taking the form of a 'Serious Game', designed in-house, supplements this set-up and helps new staff understand every phase of a project to install a renewable energy production plant.

Another highlight for our new employees is the opportunity to head out into the field to visit our sites in operation and thus witness our teams’ successes.

Support provided to managers at Akuo

Managing a team isn’t necessarily a skill you acquire during an academic course. Furthermore, at Akuo, management meets very strong values. We thus support each manager’s development in liaison with our leadership model.

At Akuo, every new manager participates in a specific course lasting a few months to help them understand our leadership model, a program supplemented by several hours of individual coaching.

Throughout the year, the entire managerial community is given the opportunity to participate in workshops, conferences and think tanks to enhance and develop their practices.
